Western Native Voice

Campaigns we have going on right now:

2020 Census
2020 Get out the Vote

About us:

Established in 2011, Western Native Voice (WNV) is a non-profit, non-partisan organization working to increase Native American participation and engagement in voting and self-determination. We work to nurture and empower new native leaders and impact policies affecting Native Americans through community organizing, education, leadership and advocacy. We are engaged on all seven Montana Indian reservations and also engaged in major Montana urban centers because approximately half of Montana’s native population lives off reservation.

Our Purpose: We inspire Native leadership so our communities flourish.
Our Mission: To foster positive social change in our communities through leadership development, education, engagement, and public policy advocacy.

Our Vision: Engaging Native Americans to building political and personal power to address local community challenges. We support and encourage Native community members to step up and be a voice for their families and communities through the civic engagement process and public policies that affect their lives and well-being. We strive for a world absent of discrimination and inequality, where every human has equal access to safety and success.

Without the help of dedicated volunteers, Western Native Voice would not be able to reach and support all seven reservations communities and urban communities.

Western Native Voice needs your help to reach our goals, expand leadership, stand up for equality and justice, register and mobilize voters, engage communities, poll watch, hold our elected officials accountable, stuff envelopes, and other duties. It is all of our responsibility to ensure that we engage Natives in Montana in protecting our land, water, children and elders. It is also our civic duty to ensure the leaders we elect are responsible to our issues when drafting policy. As a volunteer, we could use your help in performing many of these functions.

Volunteering is a great way to get involved at any level. If you feel strongly about a particular issue and would like to advance the cause, contact the us and inquire about volunteering.

Volunteer opportunities include:

  • Being a voice in your community
  • Participating in phone banks or calling your family, friends and neighbors encouraging them to vote
  • Calling registered voters on Election Day
  • Driving voters to the poll booths on Election Day and while election offices are open on reservations
  • Researching issues and clipping newspaper articles
  • Writing letters to the editor
  • Attending debates and other candidate forums
  • Helping with office work at headquarters
  • Join in our efforts to ensure we get a record voter turnout.
