Pledge to give generously in 2026
If you had to pick a favorite song, what would it be?
Mine might surprise you – because you’re a part of it!
Don’t get me wrong: I’m a huge fan of Van Halen, a lifelong lover of Edith Piaf, and listening to the Commodores brings me right back to growing up in Norfolk, Virginia. And many of you know I love a good punk band! The range is wide!
How about you? Music is a powerful presence in our lives, and not just while we’re listening. It helps us celebrate, mourn, reflect, and feel the wonder and struggle of being alive. In short: music builds hope, culture, and community.
And that’s where you come in. Communities of faith are one of the few places where neighbors sing together, and Billings First Congregational Church (BFCC), our church, is no exception-from hymns to prayers to choir anthems. But I’d go even farther: whenever we gather for worship, study, or acts of compassion, we become a kind of music, a beautiful melody that sustains and inspires.
So as much as I love the Commodores, my favorite music is the kind we make together every week. A chorus of generosity, supporting each other, our neighborhood, and God’s wider world.
In the weeks ahead, our “Chorus of Generosity” stewardship team will share more about how you can invest in this extraordinary community of song and service. And on November 9th, Stewardship Sunday, we'll celebrate with a special worship service. Mark your calendars – and start thinking about your favorite songs, too. We’re planning to discover our favorites as a church, and make a ‘BFCC playlist’ or sing them together at our special service!
Thank you for lifting up your voice and joining the chorus, and most of all, for making the melodies of faith part of your life and ours – for the love of God and neighbor.
In Community and in Christ,
Pastor Lisa Harmon
p.s. And like any great chorus, our song will continue to grow in depth and harmony. In the months ahead, our melody of generosity will expand into a new refrain — the First Church Resiliency Project, our capital campaign launching in 2026. It’s the next movement in the music we’ve been composing together for generations: a song of faithfulness, resilience, and hope for the future. Every voice will matter, every note will add strength and beauty to the whole as we work to preserve our church and continue its good work.
